        COSTUMES
        of the
        TEXAS RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL

(UPPER LEFT) One of the hawkers near the Gypsy Wagon Stage: his tattoos were kewl--and the whip was a nice touch! (UPPER RIGHT) A fur-clad Viking with a spiked "noggin-knocker" contemplates a patron bearing an antler-tipped staff.

(UPPER LEFT) One of the King's Men returns to his post after a brief break from his duties. (UPPER RIGHT) A Crusader and a Saracen spearman paused momentarily in their journeys to have their portrait taken together.

(UPPER LEFT) Check out the helm on this Barbarian axeman--it appears to be a sabertooth tiger's skull! And that double-bitted battleaxe he's wielding looks pretty wicked, too...! (UPPER RIGHT) Gepepespitto, the Gypsy King (as played by Gregory Taylor), standing in his pushcart near the Main Gate, answers questions from a couple of curious, young patrons. Of the Gypsy King, the Lady Regina Rohrer wrote: "I don't know what his deal is with the cart... but later during the day (if you got a chance to hear any of the story of that season) he got a hold of the stolen treasure chest and was seen hauling it around in his cart!"

An awesome outfit: a finely-crafted chainmail hauberk and plumed "goggle" helm! When queried why he didn't have the "standard" chainmail veil with his helm, he replied: "It'd interfere with my drinking...." Ah, a man after me own heart!!!
